Cyprus is the 28th most prosperous country in the world, according to the recently published Legatum Prosperity Index

The prosperity of 149 countries was measured according to their economic, quality, business environment, social capital, governance, education, health, safety and security, personal freedom and natural environment.

In terms of personal freedom, which takes into account the progress towards basic legal rights, individual liberties and social tolerance, Cyprus ranked 24th. It holds 25th place safety and security and 30th in health

As compared to the Index data of 2017, Cyprus climbed one place.

The researchers share the good news that the overall global prosperity continues to rise and is now at its highest point ever. 113 countries have improved their Prosperity score since 2013, and 95 countries since last year.

At the same time, this improvement is not shared equally. Since 2013 the gap between the highest and the lowest scores has been growing, and this year it is the largest it has ever been.

Moreover, safety and security continues to fall everywhere in the world , and in five out of seven regions.

Following the subject of safety and security but moving over to another research, Cyprus ranks 62nd safest country in the world among a total of 163 countries, according to Global Peace Index 2018 (GPI). This is up 3 steps as compared to the GPI 2017

The safest country in the world according to the GPI is Iceland and the least safe is Syria. Global Peace Index (GPI) measures the relative position of nations' and regions' peacefulness using three broad themes: the level of societal safety and security, the extent of ongoing domestic and international conflict and the degree of militarization. Factors are both internal such as levels of violence and crime within the country and external such as military expenditure and wars
